Two teenage suspects have been arrested in connection with a murder and hijacking that took place in Chatsworth earlier this month. KwaZulu-Natal police arrested the 18- and 19-year-old suspects following an intelligence-driven operation conducted in the Marianhill area on Thursday. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said the suspects are linked to a murder and hijacking that occurred on December 12 in the Crossmoor area, under the Chatsworth SAPS policing precinct.

“It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the victim was seated in his stationery delivery van while employees were loading items at the back,” Magwaza said. He said the employees were suddenly accosted by two armed suspects who demanded their cellphones. “The victim, who was inside the vehicle, attempted to flee on foot but sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head,” Magwaza said.

The suspects then allegedly fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. Magwaza said detectives worked tirelessly to identify and trace those responsible for the crime, while crime intelligence operatives simultaneously gathered information on the suspects’ whereabouts. “This information was disseminated to the investigation team,” he said. Members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Murder and Robbery Unit, and the KwaNdegezi SAPS Tracing Team conducted the operation in Marianhill, which led to the arrest of the two suspects.
