Two Mpumalanga police officers killed in separate crashes

Mpumalanga SAPS is mourning the deaths of two police constables who lost their lives in separate car accidents in the Lowveld within a week. On Monday, May 25, Constable Helen Motshentshe Mohotlane was involved in a head-on collision near KaNyamazane. Mohotlane was driving a state vehicle on her way to work at the time of the crash.

She succumbed to her injuries in hospital. Mohotlane was stationed at SAPS’ Provincial Human Resource Management and Development Component, where she served as a physical fitness co-ordinator. A second fatal incident occurred in Mbuzini on Saturday, May 30.

Constable Sinky Sifiso Sambo had parked a state vehicle and walked over to speak to the driver of a private vehicle when a collision occurred. Both Constable Sambo and the civilian driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The SAPS Employee Health and Wellness Unit was deployed to provide psychosocial support services to the grieving families and colleagues of both members.

The acting Mpumalanga police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, conveyed condolences to the families. “The loss of these dedicated officers is a devastating blow to the organisation. They served the country with commitment and courage.
