Police in Chipata have arrested two men for allegedly defiling a mentally challenged 16-year-old girl at Kauzu Farm, in Chipata District.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, has confirmed the incident to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS).
Mr Mweemba said the suspects have been identified as Frackson Sakala 24, and Boyd Mwanza 17, both of Kauzu Farm.
He stated that the incident occurred yesterday August 09, 2026 between 15:00 hours and 16:00 hours.
Mr Mweemba indicated that the matter was reported to Chipata Central Police Station by the victim’s aunty.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the reporter received a phone call from a male person of the same area, who was alerted by the victim’s mother, who also has a mental disability that her daughter had been dragged into the bush by two unknown persons,” Mr Mweemba explained.
He added that the man who informed the girl’s aunty, together with a friend, are the ones who rescued the victim.
“One suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended,” he mentioned.
Mr Mweemba said the two admitted to the offence during interviews and were later taken to Chipata Central Police Station.
“The Juvenile was issued with a police medical report form. A docket has been opened and an arrest made,” he said.
Mr Mweemba stated that the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
