Two people have died after being ejected from a vehicle during a crash on the R617 just past Mphophomeni on Monday. Midlands EMS Howick crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious motor vehicle accident. On arrival, emergency services found that a single vehicle had been involved in the crash, with two occupants ejected from the vehicle.

Both sustained severe injuries and were declared dead at the scene after emergency medical personnel assessed them. The exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unknown and are expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities. Emergency services reportedsleet and snow in the area at the time of the crash, with adverse weather conditions contributing to reduced visibility and potentially slippery road surfaces.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when travelling in wet, icy or snowy conditions. Drivers are advised to reduce their speed, increase following distances, switch on their headlights and avoid sudden braking or harsh steering movements.
