The mangled remains of a sedan and a light delivery vehicle after a high-speed collision on the N12 near Ogies that claimed seven lives. Seven people were killed in a horrific crash on the N12 between Ogies and Emalahleni on Monday morning. Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi said a sedan and a Nissan light delivery vehicle (LDV) collided after one of the vehicles allegedly lost control, veered off its roadway and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The department stated that the road design features a wide median separating the two directions, which suggests that the vehicle that crossed over may have been traveling at a high speed before the impact. All seven occupants of the two vehicles died at the scene. Five of the victims were travelling in the sedan – two women and three men – while the Nissan’s two occupants, both men, also died.

“The investigation into the collision by the police, Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, is already underway. However, reckless negligent driving cannot be ruled out. Police, the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the provincial Department of Community Safety have launched an investigation.
