The community is mourning the untimely passing of two cherished petrol attendants, Myuvo Mthiyane and Nhlakanipho Dlamini, who lost their lives in a horrific crash on Saturday evening. Tributes have poured in for two “cherished” petrol attendants who were killed in a horrific single-vehicle crash in Waterfall, west of Durban, on Saturday evening. The victims have been identified by their employer as Myuvo Mthiyane and Nhlakanipho Dlamini.
The pair were reportedly on their way to work at the Engen Waterfall convenience station when the tragedy occurred. According to ALS Paramedics, the accident took place just after 6 pm on Inanda Road. “Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as they found that a single vehicle had somehow lost control and left the roadway, colliding with a wall,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
The two men, believed to be in their 20s and 30s, were found severely entrapped in the wreckage. Despite the efforts of the eThekwini Fire Department, who used the Jaws of Life to cut them free, both men had sustained major injuries and were declared deceased at the scene. “Myuvo and Nhlakanipho were cherished members of our team, and their presence will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with them,” the station shared.

One Facebook user recalled their exceptional service, saying: “I recognise them for good service together with the rest of the staff. We use Engen Waterfall because of great service and friendly staff.” Another customer shared a touching memory of their rapport with the community: “Patrick [referring to one of the staff members] was our absolute favourite; he knew my daughter by name and always went out of his way to say hello even if he was assisting another customer.” “They were indeed part of a friendly, welcoming, helpful and great team, which is now depleted by their absence,” added another Facebook user.
