Traffic officer left injured after hit-and-run in Knysna

A routine traffic stop on Main Street, N2, turned violent last night when a traffic officer was hit, allegedly by a fleeing motorist, at Knysna Mall. According to reliable information, the officer first spotted the vehicle, occupied by two men, on the N2 ignoring a red traffic signal,reportsKnysna-Plett Herald. Traffic officials attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop, initiating a chase.

The pursuit ended at the mall, where the vehicle became trapped due to the lack of an exit. It is understood that the traffic officer exited his patrol vehicle and approached the driver with the intention of issuing a fine. At that point, the driver accelerated and the officer was hit, allegedly by the fleeing driver, leaving him seriously injured.

The driver with the passenger fled the scene but was reportedly arrested within two hours at Buffalo Bay. Police have not yet released the names of the suspects. The injured officer was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

His condition has not yet been confirmed. An enquiry has been sent to police for official comment regarding the charges the suspects may face and the condition of the officer. The arrest followed a rapid response from local security members after the driver fled from the scene.
