TNM plc has signed a four-year K375 million memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hope for the Blind to support 63 students with various disabilities and orphans nationwide. Under the agreement, the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed TNM will provide scholarships covering tuition fees and upkeep allowances for 56 students enrolled in eight secondary schools and seven students studying at four colleges and universities in Malawi. Speaking on Thursday in Blantyre during the signing of the MoU, TNM plc marketing director Sobhuza Ngwenya said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to empowering the less privileged people through education.

“This MoU provides scholarships for students in secondary schools, colleges and universities and ensures that wherever tuition fees are payable, we meet those costs and provide upkeep allowances as well,” he said. Hope for the Blind executive director Hastings Bwande thanked TNM plc for its continued support. He said several beneficiaries from previous programmes have already completed their studies and are now contributing to the society.

A beneficiary, Lucia Magwira, a student at Stella Maris Secondary School, said the scholarship has given her hope that she will complete her education. “Many students are failing to continue with school because they lack school fees. For us, we promise to work hard to achieve our goals,” she said.
