KwaZulu-Natal schoolboy rugby pride will be on the line this weekend when two of the province’s traditional powerhouses, Maritzburg College and Hilton College, collide in a highly-anticipated derby at College’s Reunion Day in Pietermaritzburg. With provincial bragging rights, school pride and a packed crowd awaiting, the clash promises to deliver the intensity, atmosphere and passion that have made schoolboy rugby one of the province’s most treasured sporting traditions. For Maritzburg College, hosting the fixture during Reunion weekend adds even greater significance.

“There’s nothing quite like Reunion weekend at Maritzburg College,” said College director of rugby Hendre Marnitz. “The atmosphere will be electric, with Old Collegians, parents, supporters and the broader College community all coming together. It’s a celebration of tradition, school spirit and schoolboy rugby at its very best.” Both schools arrive at the fixture after impressive seasons, with neither side willing to give much away ahead of kick-off.

College have backed the growth and unity within their squad as they prepare for one of the biggest fixtures on their calendar. “We’ve selected a squad that has worked exceptionally hard throughout the season and shown great growth as a group,” said Marnitz. “While rugby is always a collective effort, there are certainly players who have consistently stepped up through their leadership, work ethic, and composure under pressure.” He said the focus this week has remained on discipline, physicality and execution.
