By A Correspondent – Zanu PF has added three new members—alongside businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei—to its powerful Central Committee, following endorsements by the party’s Politburo The latest additions are Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development Polite Kambamura, Christine Gwati, Joseph Serima, and Collen Ndebele Kambamura was recommended by Mashonaland West province, while Gwati, Serima, and Ndebele were put forward by Matabeleland North Harare province recommended Tagwirei
Zanu PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Patrick Chinamasa confirmed the appointments, saying the Politburo approved the recommendations from the three provinces at its 385th Ordinary Session on July 30, 2025 The new members will be formally adopted at the next Central Committee meeting Tagwirei’s path to the Central Committee has been one of the most hotly debated issues within Zanu PF this year The controversial fuel tycoon—often accused of wielding outsized political influence through his vast business empire—was previously overlooked in earlier appointments
His close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa have long been a source of factional tension, with critics viewing his inclusion as a move to consolidate the President’s inner circle ahead of the party’s next elective congress Some party members had reportedly opposed Tagwirei’s co-option, citing the political risks of elevating a businessman whose wealth and state contracts have attracted both local and international scrutiny However, the Politburo’s decision signals that Mnangagwa’s faction prevailed, potentially shifting the party’s internal balance of power Chinamasa confirmed that the July 30 meeting also endorsed the co-options of Kambamura, Gwati, Serima, and Ndebele without objection.
