Charles Kajoloweka, a prominent civil society leader and Executive Director of Youth and Society (YAS), has declined his appointment as a board member of the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA).
In a letter to the Malawi government Chief Secretary Justin Saidi, Kajoloweka cited potential conflicts of interest, stating that accepting the role would compromise the independence of YAS and its advocacy work.
He expressed his gratitude to the government for the appointment, emphasizing that his decision was guided by principles and not a lack of willingness to serve the nation on the cited role.

This is not the first time Kajoloweka has turned down a public appointment, having previously declined a position on the National Youth Council board in 2020.
The government had announced the appointment of Kajoloweka and other board members for 66 state-owned companies and statutory corporations on December 9, 2025.

Kajoloweka was appointed alongside Gilbert Chilinde who is board Chairperson, and other Seven members including five other ex Officio members.
