Tax authority, ZRA, waives penalties after system outage disrupts services

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says it will waive penalties and interest incurred by taxpayers following a technical outage that disrupted its tax and customs systems earlier this month. The authority said the disruption began on March 1, 2026, affecting several core platforms used by taxpayers and businesses to access services. In a statement on Sunday, ZRA Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, said the authority had restored its key systems.

“As part of the remedial measures for the service disruption, the Authority will waive penalties and interest directly related to this outage,” Banda said. The outage temporarily affected the normal functioning of the authority’s digital services, making it difficult for taxpayers and the public to access some platforms. Banda apologised to taxpayers and other stakeholders for the inconvenience caused and urged patience as the authority worked to fully stabilise system operations.

He said taxpayers experiencing challenges related to ZRA services should contact the authority through its existing communication channels for assistance.
