TRANSPARENCY International Zambia (TIZ) has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and law enforcement agencies to take a keen interest in the mealie-meal being distributed by the UPND in Chawama. TIZ says it is difficult to draw the line between what is legitimate and what is not in the highly competitive and sensitive electoral environment characterising Chawama Constituency. On Saturday, Lusaka Province UPND Chairman Obvious Mwaliteta dispelled reports that the ruling party was dishing out mealie-meal to voters in Chawama, stating that they were only giving it to their foot soldiers who were campaigning ahead of the by-election.
