By A Correspondent| In what appears to be a bold and calculated response to recent criticism from Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba, controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei has been awarded yet another honorary doctorate — this time by Babcock University in Lagos, Nigeria.

Just days after Charamba denounced the growing trend of people styling themselves as “Doctor” without earned academic credentials, Tagwirei was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Business and Strategic Management by the Nigerian private Christian university owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Observers say the timing is telling — and possibly deliberate. Charamba, who often uses the pseudonymJamwandaon X (formerly Twitter), recently posted a sharp critique of individuals who carry honorary titles as if they are equivalent to academic achievements.

“ONE LITTLE BAD HABIT WE MUST DROP IMMEDIATELY: Kungomuka tatumidza munhu kuti DOCTOR, DR., as if izita remadunhurirwa, or as if we are INVISIBLE CHANCELLORS AND DEANS of some INVISIBLE UNIVERSITIES!! Zvekunzi CHIREMBA zvinoda kurava nemapepa izvi. Ndidzo mviromviro dzeFRAUD idzodzo pamwe nekuumba tumwari twemunamwe.

STOP IT!!!!”

While he didn’t mention names, the message was widely interpreted as a jab at Tagwirei, who has increasingly been introduced as “Dr. Tagwirei” in state and party-linked platforms despite lacking any known academic doctorate.

Rather than lie low in the wake of Charamba’s pointed message, Tagwirei has doubled down — emerging from the sidelines to accept another honorary title. The conferment from Babcock University is being seen as both a public relations move and a symbolic rebuttal to Charamba’s comments, suggesting that the businessman remains unfazed by the criticism within the top echelons of power.
