France-based Malawian women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga on Sunday scored the lone goal as Olympique Lyonnais beat her former team Paris Saint Germaine (PSG) Women in the French Women’s Premiere Ligue. The Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain scored in the 22nd minute with a classic finish. In match highlights monitored on France Football TV, a long pass from the centre circle to the left flank, sent Tabitha in full flight, then in a blur of action, she outpaced two opponents before calmly sliding the ball to the bottom right corner.
The goal took her tally to seven. She is now three behind the leading scorer Romee Leuchter of PSG and looks set to battle for the golden boot. Following the win, Lyon now have 40 points from 14 matches, having won 13 and drew once as they seek to defend the title.
They are 12 points above second-placed Nantes after playing the same number of games. In an interview yesterday, Tabitha described the match as tough. “It was tight, but exciting at the same time.

But while it appears rosy for Tabitha, the same cannot be said of her compatriot Rose Kabzere whose team Montpellier anchors the 12-team league with eight points, from two victories, two draawstwice and 10 losses.
