Police arrested a teenager and three other people for murder and hijacking on Okavango Road, Cape Town, yesterday. Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, says members of the Flying Squad received information from a vehicle tracking company that a hijacked Toyota Corolla was driving around Brackenfell. “The members spotted a vehicle matching the description at a garage on Okavango Road.

Inside were four males between the ages of 18 and 22. When questioned about the ownership of the vehicle, one of them claimed that it belonged to their friend,” Gwala says. She says all four suspects were arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, but it was later discovered that the victim was murdered.

The suspects are due to appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court. As they approached, several men jumped out of the vehicle and fled in different directions, Gwala says. She says police proceeded to the vehicle and found the driver seated at the back of the minibus, unharmed. The vehicle had minor damage to the dashboard, and the radio and the tracking device had been removed.

SAPS management in the Western Cape commends the quick action of the officers involved in both incidents, Gwala says.
