Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has cried foul over Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) failure to open the electronic domestic transfer matching system. According to Sulom Rules and Regulations Article 14, which is also aligned with FAM regulations, the transfer window opens immediately after the last league match. The regulations state: “Transfers shall open immediately after the last match of the league and shall end fourteen [14] days before the commencement of the league.
“The procedure for transfer shall be conducted in accordance with the FAM Transfer Rules and Regulations annexed to these [Sulom] Regulations.” Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said in an interview yesterday that FAM has to open the domestic transfer matching system to allow clubs to complete player transfers. He said: “The regulations are very clear. The transfer window opened soon after the last league match in December.
FAM must open the transfer system. “Which rules and regulations is FAM applying by refusing to open the transfer matching system? You cannot just ignore the regulation which you put in place.” Banda said failure to open the electronic transfer matching system would delay transfers and create room for disputes.

He said: “It’s now two months after the last league match. Clubs want to complete transfer deals, but since FAM has not opened the system for registration, these deals are hanging in balance. This gives room to conflicts and transfer wrangles.” But FAM competitions and club licensing manager Clement Kafwafwa said the transfer window will only open after the conclusion of the last elite competition.
“The transfer window will remain closed until we conclude the Castel Challenge Cup,” he said. FCB Nyasa Bullets, who have already invaded the market in a bid to beef up their squad, are among the clubs affected by the failure to open the transfer window. The club has already reached an agreement with Karonga United goalkeeper McLean Mwale. However, the transfer cannot be concluded since the transfer matching system remains closed.
