If you want to spoil your Valentine with something sweet but simple, these bright little heart cookies are an easy win. They look adorable on a plate and taste buttery and soft.
Cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
Add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Add the food colouring and knead gently until the colour is even.
Wrap the dough and chill it for 20 minutes so it firms up a little.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface. Use a heart shaped cutter to cut out your cookies.
Place the hearts on a lined baking tray. Bake at 180°C for 10 to 12 minutes until set but still light in colour. Let them cool completely.
Dust with icing sugar or decorate with chocolate sauce. Write a little message on the serving plate if you want to add something extra.
