Food lover Austin ‘Spanner’ Awali has walked away with a cool 20 000 South African Rand (about K2 million on official exchange rate) bounty following his victory over South African Billy G on Saturday. The two faced each other to a 20 000 South African Rand contest and the Malawian food-eater triumphed over the huge Billy G barely one minute into the battle held at Retreat in Cape Town, South Africa. In an interview yesterday, Spanner said despite his initial fears of his opponent, the support from Malawians rallied him on.

“I am excited because Malawians are happy with my victory. South Africans are surprised how I defeated him in such style, but it has just showed that he is a little boy. He is not at my level yet,’ he said.

After the battle, his compatriots based in the Rainbow Nation joined him in a jubilant dance while chanting his name. This was Spanner’s second bout in 2026 after his victory over Grinder Malawi on February 7 in Cape Town, South Africa. He said he was trying to set new standards for the new year.
