Six Milnerton High learners have been expelled following a brutal bullying incident that shocked the school community and sparked widespread outrage after footage of the attack went viral. The incident, which took place in October 2025, showed a learner being assaulted by a group of fellow learners, prompting urgent calls from parents and activists for stronger action against school violence.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed that the expulsions followed an internal disciplinary process conducted by the school and later supported by the department. WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said: βThe Head of Department has upheld the recommendation by the school governing body ofMilnerton High Schoolto expel six learners from the school following the outcome of the disciplinary processes.β Hammond added that five of the expelled learners are in Grade 12, while one is in Grade 10. Meanwhile, eightlearnerslinked to the same incident are facing criminal charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
