THE Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has disclosed that it will present findings from a pollution impact report on Sino Metals Leach Zambia Limited between December 28 and 30, 2025. On February 18, 2025, a tailings dam at Sino-Metals Leach in Chambishi collapsed, releasing approximately 50 million litres of acidic and toxic waste into the Mwambashi stream and the Kafue River ecosystem. The waste contained dangerous levels of cyanide, arsenic, copper, and lead, posing risks of organ damage and cancer.

Later in June, the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka issued a health alert, warning its citizens to avoid the impacted areas due to heavy metal poisoning risks.
