The 2017 silver Krugerrand, the first of its kind ever produced and minted to celebrate 50 years of the gold Krugerrand, is set to feature among 58 other silver items in the final auction of 2025 hosted by Bassani Auction House. It is an auction set to dazzle thanks partially to silver’s “unprecedented golden year”. The auction, named “Silver Rush”, will on Sunday offer investors and collectors a rare opportunity to capitalise on one of the most dramatic commodity surges in recent history,” said Landon Coleske, senior numismatic expert and historian at Bassani Auction House.
Silver has been the standout performer of 2025. Since January, when the metal traded at R543,72/oz, the price has climbed to R984/oz — an extraordinary 81% increase. “This surge has not only outpaced gold but has positioned silver as one of the world’s strongest assets this year,” added Coleske.
