Silver Strikers have turned down FCB Nyasa Bullets’ interest in their right-back McDonald Lameck and attacker Uchizi Vunga.

The People’s Team wrote the Bankers last month offering to sign the international duo, but at the time Silver said they needed to consult their coaching panel and the two players before deciding the way forward.

But in an interview on Monday, the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored outfit’s chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said the two players will stay put.

“The players decided to be part of the Silver Strikers project for the 2026 season,” he said.

In a separate interview, Silver coach Peter ‘Shoes’ Mgangira said the two are among their key players who form the backbone of the team and remain on his plans.

He said: “I was briefed by the CEO about Bullets’ interest and when other big teams want your players, it shows

that you have quality.

“The other thing is that in terms of welfare, Silver is one of the teams that looks after its players well and  if anything, we should be selling them abroad and not to local teams.

“So, much as we could have stuck to the players, I am also happy that individually, they want to stay.”

On his part, Bullets acting CEO Albert Chigoga said: “We do not want to comment on players who belong to other teams.”

Last week, he said the club won’t wait for the incoming coach to buy new players as they are facing a race against time.

Said Chigoga: “We do not want to reach a point where ena amaliza minofu yonse ife kutisiyira mafupa [all good players are bought by other teams].

“When the league winds up, everyone knows that it is the time to start the hunt for players.”

Bullets have agreed terms with Karonga United to sign goalkeeper Maclean Mwale, but the deal cannot be completed as the transfer window will only open after the Castel Challenge Cup final on February 21.
