Bulawayo: Allegations of selective application of justice have emerged following contrasting bail decisions involving prominent Italian born businessman and miner Francesco Marconati and his security guard, who are co-accused in a case arising from the fatal shooting of an alleged intruder at Marconati’s premises in Matabeleland North. Marconati was denied bail by the courts, while the security guard who allegedly fired the shot that killed the intruder was granted bail. According to court proceedings, the incident occurred when an intruder allegedly entered Marconati’s property at Duration Gold Mine prompting a response from the security guard, who is accused of shooting and killing the deceased.
Both Marconati and the guard were subsequently arrested and charged. The security guard was released on bail and Marconati denied on the same day in the same matter.
