The incident occurred on December 21, when Kwenda and Moyo, who were on night duty, allegedly conspired with an accomplice, Chamunorwa Muvhuti After the rest of the employees had left for the day, the two guards reportedly allowed Muvhuti to hide inside the premises Once the coast was clear, Muvhuti used a sharp tool to dislodge a portable safe containing US$195,000 in cash The theft was discovered the following day, and the matter was quickly reported to the police
On December 25, detectives tracked down Muvhuti in Pfungwe, where he had traveled to pay bride price Upon arrest, he confessed and led police to recover US$186,100 in stolen cash He also named Kwenda and Moyo as accomplices in the heist Authorities managed to recover a portion of the stolen funds during the investigation
