Patience NdlovuAS schools prepare to close this week, police in Bulawayo are cracking the whip on violent learners known for turning the CBD into a battleground.Speaking during a school safety campaign, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele issued a stern warning to pupils from local high schools like Milton, Gifford, Hamilton and Founders, who are notorious for staging gang fights and bullying sprees across the city centre.“School will be closing on August 7, and it’s a habit for city schools in Bulawayo whereby when schools close, the likes of Milton, Gifford, Hamilton, Founders gather in the CBD and start bullying each other and practicing gang fights and having rallies around the city center and Haddon and Sly,” said Insp Msebele. She said police are on full alert and will be out in numbers to prevent any nonsense.“As the police, we are in full force on the ground and we do not want to see any form of gathering from school children,” she declared.Insp Msebele revealed just how dangerous these brawls have become.“One of the Gifford boys had a hand and leg fracture for the whole term because of these fights. We also had a murder case at Founders High School in the years back,” she said. She urged parents, guardians, shop owners and commuters to play their part in stopping the chaos.“Chase them from town to home because that is where they are safe. We cannot be on every street corner,” added Insp MsebeleShare on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
