Seized firearms and explosives from a SANDF member’s residence, highlighting the ongoing battle against gangsterism in the Western Cape. While residents on the Cape Flats have finally been promised that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will come to their aid in the fight against gangsterism in the Western Cape, it could turn out to be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’. This after a member of the SANDF was arrested on Saturday for possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives.
The soldier, 51, was not at home when the Anti-Gang Unit raided the property, but when he arrived he identified himself as the homeowner. Acting on a tip-off that the army man was storing guns and ammo at his house in Delphi Street, cops then found a steel box hidden under a carpet and sealed with concrete. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said: “Anti-Gang Unit members are hard at work to rid Western Cape communities of illegal firearms and ammunition. “Their efforts were rewarded when they seized a steel box containing different calibre firearms, ammunition and explosives in Ravensmead.
