A Zimpapers delivery employee lost his life in a horrific accident early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle driven by an unlicensed driver in Nguboyenja, Bulawayo The deceased, 43-year-old Silas Bhunu of Mzilikazi, was on duty delivering newspapers when the accident occurred along Luveve Road He died at the scene Police have arrested Melusi Nkomo (20) and Shelton Dube (19), both from Nkulumane, in connection with the crash
They are facing charges of culpable homicide, driving without a licence, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent In a statement, Bulawayo police said:“Silas Bhunu, a male adult aged 43 years of Mzilikazi, died on the spot after being hit by a white Toyota Hilux GD6 driven by Melusi Nkomo The vehicle was taken without the owner’s consent after Nkomo and Shelton Dube connived with a security guard at a local garage where they are employed.”
Police said the vehicle was carrying eight passengers when Nkomo veered into the oncoming lane and hit Bhunu’s motorbike before crashing into an electricity pole “The suspects and their friends fled the scene, leaving four passengers behind in the vehicle
Investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons,” the police said Bhunu’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for a postmortem The suspects are expected to appear in court soon Source: Zimeye
