A pedestrian was fatally struck by a motor vehicle along Seke Road in yet another tragic incident that has reignited concerns over road safety in Zimbabwe.

The fatal accident occurred just days after the nation was left reeling from the devastating Hunyani Bridge disaster, which claimed 17 lives.

On the same day, another accident occurred when a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ditch, leaving several people injured. A bus was also involved in a minor collision along the same stretch, though no injuries were reported.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in a message of condolence, acknowledged the alarming rise in road traffic incidents and said he had directed law enforcement agencies to take firm action against reckless driving.

“What more needs to happen before serious safety measures are implemented on our roads?” asked one commuter, expressing the growing frustration among the public.

There is increasing pressure on authorities to improve road signage, street lighting, and enforcement of traffic laws—particularly along high-risk routes like Seke Road.
