Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers admits the club “still has work to do in the market” but is “hopeful” the squad can be added to this week.

The Scottish champions have made six summer signings, but half of those have been on free transfers, and questions remain over whether the board have sufficiently backed the manager this window.

Celtic begin their Scottish Premiership title defence at home to St Mirren on Sunday – live on Sky Sports – and are closing in on a loan deal for Manchester City centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

“We still have work to do in the market but I’m really excited,” Rodgers toldSky Sports News.

“The focus is really on the players that are here, and they’ve been working very well and hopefully by the end of the month, we’ll be a stronger squad for the end of the transfer window.

“We hope this week there might be some news on that (transfers), but I think coaches in the transfer market don’t move at the same pace
