A Harare magistrate has cancelled the warrant of arrest issued against Robert Tinotenda Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, after he voluntarily appeared in court on Friday.

Mugabe, who is currently out on bail, arrived at the Harare Magistrates’ Court accompanied by his lawyer, Arshiel Mugiya. The warrant had been issued the previous day after he failed to attend a scheduled remand hearing.

Presiding magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe cancelled the warrant but fined Mugabe US$30 for missing court. The magistrate also confirmed that his trial would proceed on November 13.

The case stems from Mugabe’s arrest last month during a police traffic operation in Harare. According to court papers, he was stopped while allegedly driving against traffic along Second Street Extension, formerly Sam Nujoma Extension.

Police said they discovered two sachets of dagga, a pack of Rizla rolling papers, and a dagga crusher in his sling bag. The seized drugs weighed about two grams with an estimated street value of US$30. He was charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The warrant was cancelled after Mugabe explained the reason for his absence and appeared in person to regularise his court attendance. His lawyer confirmed that Mugabe intended to comply fully with court proceedings going forward.

Magistrate Sanyatwe maintained the November 13 trial date and reminded Mugabe to appear without fail. The case will proceed under the charge of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

Mugabe remains on bail as the matter awaits trial. The development marks the latest update in the ongoing case that has drawn wide public interest due to his family background.
