Scores of matriculants gathered Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) and Durban University of Technology (DUT) on Monday as registration for the 2026 academic year officially got under way. Both institutions said that the current registration process is strictly for students who have received firm offers and have formally accepted their placements. “Only students with confirmed offers are expected to be in the registration queue.

Prospective students who have not received an offer are kindly requested to remain at home at this stage,” MUT said in a statement. The institution added that dates for late applications and walk-in registrations will be communicated at a later stage through its official platforms. Meanwhile, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) has also begun its first-year registration process.

Registrar Dr Maditsane Nkonoane urged students to make use of the online registration system and only visit campuses if they encounter challenges, adding that support services are available across all DUT campuses. Nkonoane said large crowds were seen outside campuses on Monday, with many people having not applied and hoping to secure placement. We are assisting students who received firm offers and have accepted them.
