Dear studentsAS we approach the examination period, it is vital to speak openly and honestly about issues that can destroy your future — one of the most serious being rape. What is rape?Rape is when someone forces another person to have sexual intercourse without their consent. It is a violent violation of a person’s body, rights and dignity.
It is not just wrong — it is a crime under the laws of Zimbabwe and many other nations. Consequences of rape:• Criminal charges: If you are found guilty of rape, you can face a long prison sentence.• A ruined future: You lose opportunities for further education and employment.• Emotional trauma: For both the victim and the perpetrator, lives are changed forever.• Stigma: You may live with shame and regret, and bring shame to your family. No one — regardless of their age or grade — has the right to force someone else into a sexual act.
Being in Form 4 or Form 6 does not make you an adult who can do as you please. You are still a student and your focus should be on your books, not on reckless behaviour. This is your warning:• Stay away from dangerous company.• Say NO to friends who encourage wrong.• Don’t allow pressure to lead you into crime.• If it feels wrong, it is wrong.
