According to a statement from Johannesburg Water, direct-fed areas are expected to recover first. Other areas supplied via reservoirs may take between three to five days to fully normalise. Rand Water has announced that the 54-hour maintenance on the Eikenhof system was completed ahead of schedule.
While residents in Fleurhof, Doornkop, Soweto, and Roodepoort Deep have experienced significant water outages, the bulk supplier confirmed that water is now being restored to the affected areas. “Johannesburg Water continues to monitor system levels and performance and may apply configuration changes to boost the systems where applicable,” it said. “Alternative water supply will continue to be provided to affected communities until normal water supply is fully restored, while the system is closely monitored during the recovery phase to ensure stability and safe operation.” During a media briefing on Monday in Johannesburg, Mayor Dada Morero advised that residents may experience a delay of at least seven days for water service to be fully restored following the completion of Rand Water’s scheduled 54-hour maintenance on January 8.Morero had that said some households could be without water for up to a week following the final phase of planned maintenance at the Eikenhof Pump Station. “These improvements are necessary to enhance the long-term reliability and sustainability of water supply to parts of Johannesburg,” Morero said.
