Ramaphosa keeps Madlanga Commission findings under wraps, raising transparency concerns

Retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, who is chairing the commission, handed the second report to Ramaphosa on May 29, 2026. The report focuses heavily on alleged corruption allegations within the SAPS and other regional metro police departments, alongside evidence concerning major drug busts. This includes the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD).

Testimony detailed how a powerful drug syndicate known as the “Big Five” cartel allegedly bribed and compromised high-ranking officers across Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Investigations exposed systemic failure, evidence fabrication, interference in major narcotics and murder investigations, and internal power struggles.
