Limpopo police have seized a high-powered Toyota Hilux GD6 bakkiepacked with daggaworth an estimated R2.6 million after a dramatic intelligence-driven operation along the R33 between Vaalwater and Modimolle. Provincial police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said the breakthrough followed coordinated action between Waterberg District Police, Waterberg Rural Safety and private security companies on Saturday, February 14, at around 16:30. “The Police responded to this crucial information about three vehicles, a white Toyota Fortuner and two Toyota hilux bakkie GD6 traveling from Gauteng Province towards Modimolle N1 northbound.” An operation was swiftly activated and the vehicles matching the description were spotted in Vaalwater, travelling at high speed.
Officers attempted to stop them, but the suspects sped off, triggering a pursuit. Ledwaba added that a lookout was activated with the assistance of private security companies, leading to the interception of a charcoal Toyota Hilux GD6. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes on foot.
“Unfortunately, the suspects left the vehicle and ran in the bushes on foot. The vehicle was searched and was found fully loaded in eight bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R2.6 million,” he said. The bakkie has been seized for further investigation, while the suspects remain at large.
