News / NationalProphet Magaya remanded in custodyby Staff reporter2 hrs ago |327ViewsPROPHETIC, Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder Walter Magaya was on Monday remanded in custody after appearing in court facing multiple charges of rape and fraud involving more than US$40 000.Magaya, who was arrested on Saturday, appeared in court alongside his wife, Tendai Magaya, who is jointly charged with him on the fraud counts.According to court documents, the prominent cleric faces five counts of rape and 13 counts of fraud.The State further alleges that Magaya’s bodyguard assaulted police officers during the arrest, leading to an additional charge of assault.The court session drew hundreds of PHD congregants who filled the gallery, praying for their leader and calling for his release.
Despite the emotional scenes, Regional Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa ruled that Magaya had a case to answer, rejecting his lawyers’ argument that he had been unlawfully detained beyond the constitutional limit.Magaya, a well-known and often controversial figure, has previously made headlines for a series of high-profile incidents.
