The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia will pay a State Visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe on 14th November 2025. The visit comes at the invitation of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.

During the visit, the two Heads of State will co-chair the inaugural session of the Zambia-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC). The new commission replaces the existing Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) and represents an upgraded framework for strategic engagement between the two countries.

According to the Ministry, the establishment of the BNC demonstrates the shared vision of the two leaders to strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen economic integration. The framework is expected to accelerate joint infrastructure projects and enhance partnerships in sectors that are critical to national development.

In preparation for the high-level session, a Meeting of Senior Officials will take place on 12th November 2025, followed by a Ministerial Meeting on 13th November 2025. These meetings will set the agenda and prepare the agreements to be considered during the inaugural BNC.

Through the Bi-National Commission, Zambia and Zimbabwe aim to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, and transport. Both governments view these sectors as vital to advancing socio-economic growth and regional connectivity.

The Ministry stated that the visit also underscores the longstanding bonds of friendship and shared history between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The two countries are linked by geography, culture, and shared assets such as the Kariba Dam and Victoria Falls, which play central roles in the economies of both nations.

“Zambia remains firmly committed to regional cooperation, economic diplomacy, and infrastructure development as catalysts for inclusive growth and prosperity within the Southern African region,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Zambia’s bilateral and regional relations in line with the country’s foreign policy and President Hichilema’s vision of promoting peace, stability, and economic transformation through diplomacy.

President Hichilema is expected to return to Lusaka immediately after the conclusion of his engagements in Harare.
