Maputo, is today hosting the 2nd Mozambique–European Union Business Forum (Global Gateway), which is expected to deliver concrete outcomes. The event brings together the President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, Portugal’s Minister Adjunct and for State Reform, Gonçalo Matias, and the European Commission Deputy Director-General for International Partnerships, Myriam Ferran. The 2nd Mozambique–European Union (EU) Business Forum will also include business missions from several countries and European financial institutions.
According to statements made in May by the EU Ambassador to Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, the focus will be on robust economic partnerships, private sector engagement, and inclusive growth. The diplomat assured that a real impact is expected from “quality European investments to support green industrialisation in Mozambique”. “The forum is not, and will not be, a meeting for debates.
We are working to ensure that it becomes a platform for results, tangible investments, projects, implementation and new opportunities within the framework of our partnership,” said Antonino Maggiore. The ambassador also noted that the expected €178 million allocated to key sectors, including energy and agribusiness, represents the first results and key projects already confirmed by European and Mozambican companies within the preparations for the business forum and the 5th Business Conference on Renewable Energies in Mozambique (RENMOZ), scheduled for Thursday and Friday. The opening of the two-day forum will take place this afternoon, led by the President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo.

The event will also be attended by Portugal’s Minister Adjunct and for State Reform, Gonçalo Matias, and the European Commission Deputy Director-General for International Partnerships, Myriam Ferran. The Global Gateway is the EU’s global strategy to invest in sustainable and reliable infrastructure that benefits people and the planet, focusing on strengthening smart, clean and secure connections in areas such as digital, energy and transport, as well as reinforcing health systems, education and research. Daniel Chapo called in March, in Brussels, for EU investment in the energy sector, stating that this is the path to establishing four million new connections, accelerating universal access to electricity in Mozambique by 2030.
