Zimbabwe News Update
He has also done several philanthropic works and this has ignited calls from zimbabweans from different backgrounds to poke businessman sir wicknell chivayo to recognise the outstanding community service and philanthropy of traditional healer and humanitariansekuru banda. Sekuru banda himself has not personally sought for any financial reward or gifts from sir wicknell but that his selfless contributions to society deserve acknowledgment, especially from influential figures who have publicly rewarded others for various reasons. “sekuru banda has a heart of gold. He helps people from all walks of life, regardless of religion, politics, or background. To him, everyone is equal before god,” said beneficiary james maposa.
Another recipient, tawanda moyo, said the food hampers included rice, sugar, beans, maize meal, cooking oil, salt, and soap essentials that have become unaffordable for many families in today’s economy. While sir wicknell has gained attention for his high-profile cash and car donations, often viewed by some as politically motivated, citizens say it would be fitting for him to recognise grassroots philanthropists like sekuru banda whose efforts are quietly transforming communities without fanfare or expectation of personal gain. This is not the first time sekuru banda has come to the aid of the needy. Over the years he has supported countless individuals, including artists, athletes and vulnerable families.
During the covid-19 lockdowns, when public gatherings were banned, he assisted struggling entertainers such as the late comedian marabha, musician paradzai mesi, boxer mosquito, football legend george shaya and socialite lady squanda. Sekuru banda built a six-roomed house for marabha in epworth and provided groceries and medical aid to the late shaya. He has also distributed sanitary wear to schoolgirls in rural areas and continues to run empowerment programmes for youths and widows. The growing public sentiment is that recognising sekuru banda’s consistent humanitarian work could inspire more collaboration among zimbabwe’s philanthropists, helping to strengthen community support systems at a time when many are struggling.
