POLICE and other stakeholders, including the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, are expected to meet along Seke Road today for a traffic safety awareness campaign.

Four accidents have since been recorded along Seke Road within two weeks.

One of the accidents at Hunyani River bridge claimed 17 people on the spot while five were injured when a haulage truck encroached into the oncoming traffic lane.

It dragged the kombi and landed on it.

The campaign, led by Officer Commanding Harare province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, will be attended by representatives from the Vehicle Inspection Department, Police Community Christian Network, Commuter Omnibus Associations and associations representing passengers.

“Police have noted with concern the loss of lives in road traffic accidents recorded in Harare.”

“An awareness campaign will be held along Seke Road tomorrow (today) that will include a number of other stakeholders,” said Insp Chakanza.
