Monday 28 July 2025Crimes and Courts The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a major crackdown on pirate taxis, touts, and reckless drivers in Harare, resulting in 1,050 arrests since July 22. The operation aims to address growing concerns over road lawlessness, unregistered vehicles, and public frustration with the chaos caused by illegal transport operators in the capital. “The ZRP reports that 1,050 arrests were effected in Harare as from July 22 during the current operation on pirate taxis and recklessness on the roads,” said a police spokesperson.
The crackdown has also seen hundreds of vehicles impounded and scores of touts taken to court.
