The Airports Company of Zimbabwe has announced plans to expandKariba Airportto facilitate international direct flights at the recently held Mashonaland West Investment Conference This expansion aims to enhance accessibility to the region, supporting the growing demand for tourism “As part of our strategic vision, we are currently conducting feasibility studies to explore options for expanding the airport or potentially relocating it to Charara,” said Mr Tonderai Mangombe, Public Relations and Communications Manager for the Airports Company “With an average of six chartered planes landing daily, the potential for increased international travel is evident
Once we finalize our plans, we will actively engage the international community to establish direct flights into Kariba.”
Additionally, local transport initiatives are gaining momentum A local bus operator is collaborating with authorities to construct modern bus terminus facilities, improving transportation options for visitors “Our aim is to modernize our operations and enhance the passenger experience,” explained Mr Elijah Tembo, spokesperson for CAG
“We are already working with Harare City Council to provide amenities such as Wi-Fi, clean water, and restroom facilities at our bus terminus, and we plan to replicate this model in major towns served by our routes.”
Honourable Marian Chombo, the Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, emphasized the broader economic implications of these developments “The ongoing investments are catalysts for real economic growth,” she noted “They will increase tourist traffic, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the provincial GDP Kariba is evolving from merely being a destination of natural beauty to becoming a hub of business and international conferences.”
The two-day investment conference, themed “Unlocking and Strengthening Provincial Potential Sustainably Towards the Realisation of Vision 2030,” drew participation from government officials, industry leaders, and local authorities
