The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has drawn strong crowds at the Rand Show 2026, showcasing its skills, equipment and operational readiness through interactive exhibits and live demonstrations. More than 40 military exhibition stalls formed part of the display, offering insight into the work of the armed forces. Among the highlights were specialised units such as the Clinical Education and Training Unit, a collaboration between the SA Military Health Service Nursing College and 1 Military Hospital, as well as the Institute for Aviation Medicine, which ensures pilots meet strict medical and performance standards.

The SA Army Support Formation Emergency Services, including fire and rescue teams, also attracted attention for their role in responding to emergencies both within military operations and in civilian settings during disasters. Meanwhile, the SA Air Defence Artillery showcased key defence equipment, including advanced radar systems and anti-aircraft weaponry, giving visitors a closer look at the country’s air defence capabilities. A major highlight of the event was a high-intensity arena mock attack demonstration, which simulated real combat scenarios.

Spectators watched as an Oryx helicopter deployed paratroopers from 44 Parachute Regiment, followed by a co-ordinated rescue operation involving air and ground forces. The display illustrated the precision, speed and co-ordination required in joint-force operations, including the rescue of a downed pilot under simulated hostile conditions. “The arena mock attack programme stands as a powerful demonstration of the South African Army’s operational readiness, specialised capabilities, and unwavering commitment to mission success,” said Defence Corporate Communication.
