Parliament is expected to meet from February 13 to April 10 for the 2026/27 Budget Meeting which President Peter Mutharika will open with a State of the Nation Address (Sona). In a statement issued yesterday, Speaker of the National Assembly Sameer Suleman said the Second Meeting of the 52nd Session will draw Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, members of Parliament and the public. “The Office of the Speaker of Parliament wishes to inform all Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, members of Parliament and the general public that the President will officially open the 2026/27 Budget Meeting on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 10:00am,” reads the statement in part.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) has described the meeting as timely, saying Malawians will be looking beyond figures to clear economic direction. She said: “The forthcoming 2026/27 National Budget is more than a routine fiscal exercise. The current 2025/26 National Budget, which expires on March 31, 2026, was revised upward by K512.6 billion during the mid-year review to K8.589 trillion from the initial K8.077 trillion.
