Zimbabwe News Update
Farirai MachivenyikaSenior ReporterParliament has apologised to President Mnangagwa and the nation for the loss of power supply that occurred while the President was delivering his State of the Nation Address and officially opening the Third Session of the 10th Parliament at the new building in Mt Hampden yesterday. In a statement, Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda expressed regret over the power outage. He explained that the disruption was caused by a trip of the circuit breaker supplying the load.“The Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe sincerely regrets the loss of power during the State of the Nation Address by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, on the 28th of October.
We offer our sincere apologies to His Excellency and to the nation of Zimbabwe.“The loss of power to key systems occurred while the Parliament building was running on a generator, with ZESA supply as a standby. When the power was lost, the generator continued to run, but it was not supplying power.“Preliminary investigations indicate that a circuit breaker supplying the load had tripped.
The restoration took longer than expected, resulting in part of the SONA being delivered without power supply,” Mr Chokuda said.He added that investigations into the matter are ongoing.“The Parliament of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, ZESA, and other Government agencies are investigating the incident and will report to the Nation on what transpired, as well as implement measures to prevent recurrence.”Leave a ReplyCancel reply
