Parents across the city have been making last-minute dashes to wrap up stationery lists and uniform shopping, with the new school term now just days away. Shoppers, young and old, were seen navigating stores with handwritten lists in hand, while some children tried on blazers and uniforms ahead of their return to the classroom. Parent of three Junaid Potgieter said most of his back-to-school shopping was already done, but a sale proved too tempting to ignore.

“I saw that the school boys’ long pants were being sold at R99 a pair at a uniform store in Raisethorpe and there’s always a need for the pants during the year. I have two sons and these were on special so why not,” said Potgieter. Vincent Zondi, who was shopping with his three children and their grandmother, said the timing of the trip was dictated by work commitments.

“I work far from home and this is the only time I am able be with the children and buy everything,” said Zondi. Parent Karman Naidoo said she was collecting the final items on her sons’ stationery lists as the school year approaches. “We got most of the items in December but we have the final lists now and we just needed to get the book covering materials.
