A 17-year-old boy was rescued from the sea and resuscitated by emergency medical teams following a near-drowning incident at Umhlanga Beach on Monday morning.

The teenager, who had been swimming with friends, got into difficulty in the water and was pulled from the sea in an unresponsive state before paramedics initiated advanced life-saving treatment on the beach. According to KZNVIP, on arrival, medics established that the teen “had been swimming with friends” when he “had gotten into difficulty in the water.” “The male was swiftly rescued and brought onto the beach, where medics were immediately alerted,” KZNVIP said. At the time of their arrival, the patient was “unresponsive.” Paramedics immediately began treatment.

“KZNVIP Medics, working alongside Netcare 911, initiated advanced life-saving interventions and successfully resuscitated the patient.” After the teenager was revived, emergency teams focused on stabilising him at the scene. “Following stabilisation at the scene, the patient was transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment,” KZNVIP said. The incident has been recognised as a strong example of rapid response and collaboration between emergency services. KZNVIP commended those involved, stating: “Well done to all emergency teams involved for their swift response and outstanding teamwork.”
