NewsPoliticsStaff WriterOPPOSITION Africa First Movement President Welcome Shumba has warned the ruling Zanu PF party against extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term in office to 2030, saying the move will backfire.The recent adoption of the so-called resolution number 1 by ZANU PF as a party is totally a non-starter.He said ZANU PF as a party is blind to see the danger that can be brought by leaders of other opposition political parties as well as other political players.” They are undermining the strength of other political stakeholders to mobilize the masses to say no to the presidential term extension.“This is the biggest mistake ZANU PF is making, which may spectacularly backfire if they persist with this 2030 Agenda,” he said.He added:“The general public is obviously tired of ZANU PF in leading this country because it has failed to make meaningful changes during and after the Mugabe era. Resuscitation of industries has failed, genuine black empowerment has failed, creation of employment has failed, respect of human rights has failed, stopping corruption has failed, professionalism by the security sector has failed, respect for the genuine war veterans has failed, respect for the elderly and physically disabled people through government grants has failed, public transport system has failed, accountability of natural resources has failed, accountability of use of public funds has failed, service delivery to the public has failed.”He said considering the time ZANU PF has been in power it has failed to eradicate poverty.Shumba called for electoral reforms.“There is no respect of the will of the people through the ballot and continuous political dialogue has failed through the dumbing of POLAD and today respect of the country’s constitution seems failing,” he said.He added that as a result the majority no longer want ZANU PF in power .“Zimbabweans need fresh minds and a completely new system.“Mugabe overstayed in power to the extent of making his party an enemy of the people. He is the source of all our problems and to make matters worse, the Second Republic seems to be taking the same Mugabe route, leaving the citizens economically and politically vulnerable.“Zimbabweans are desperate for change, and had it not been for compromised politicians, this country could have kissed change a long time ago.“Zimbabweans are just hungry for political leaders who can lead them to Canaan.
We as politicians have failed the nation.“Citizens have no political parents .“Zimbabweans are now political orphans because of us being compromised. We are too compromised to the extent of selling the people’s struggle for money and luxury. It’s high time us politicians should put aside our differences ,unite ,rally together and sweep away the spirit of greed , selfish and pompous for us to remove ZANU PF from power and lead our people to Canaan.”The reaction by most of the political players against the presidential term limit extension is a sign that they have really political brains who if merged together, it will be very difficult for ZANU PF to extend the presidential term limit.In conclusion , he said:“I warn ZANU PF not to undermine the strength that we politicians have in mobilizing the masses to say no to 2030 Agenda.
That will never happen under our watch. The Constitution shouldn’t be tampered with for no genuine reasons.” ZANU PF is not Zimbabwe. The future is more important than the present.
