OPC caps off monitoring, evaluation and learning week with tour of Geo Pomona

Harmony Agere The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) concluded its Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) week with a high-level tour of the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility today.Geo Pomona CEO and executive chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, led the delegation, giving an update on the progress made at the waste-to-energy facility so far.Some of the completed units include the sorting plant, water treatment plant, encapsulation, weigh bridge and sports facilities.The construction of a power plant and a restaurant is already underway.Permanent Secretary for Presidential Affairs, Monitoring and Implementation of Government programmes Mrs Fananai Madambi described the Geo Pomona project as a “learning point” for Zimbabwe and the broader region.“Geo Pomona, don’t tire. Receive as many delegations as possible,” she said. “This is not just a local success, it’s regional and global.“Zimbabwe is already on the map, and this project is drawing attention not because we are seeking applause, but because it works.”Mrs Madambi said it was important for the Government to keep track of all national projects and ensure that all set targets and objectives were being met.“MEL week is not something which happens in a vacuum.

What we want to communicate are the tangibles, the products of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning,” she said.“As MEL champions, these are the kinds of projects we can cite as success stories. Evaluation isn’t just about summative reports at the end, there is formative evaluation that happens along the way. Already, we are seeing a cleaner environment.”Mrs Madambi underlined that results should not be viewed only in terms of long-term outcomes, but through the entire results chain, including immediate impact and lessons learned.“When we talk about results, we’re also looking at impact.

And what is happening here resonates very well with our energy needs,” she said.“We want to educate the nation to embrace Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, it’s not just for government or institutions; it’s an individual and national responsibility.”The tour marked the culmination of a week dedicated to promoting a results-oriented culture across government institutions.Dr Nguwaya said stakeholders were welcome to propose partnerships and tap into the company’s knowledge.Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
